Not your average travel guide.
The Venetian experience as a tourist is so different than that of a resident. In a small city so full of life, it’s easy to get swept up in tourist attractions over the course of a week and never explore tiny family-owned bakeries, hidden green spaces and old neighborhoods that are home to generations of Venetians. My first experience outside of the US was living and studying in Venice for 4 months, and everything from the trash collections to the pace of life was an adjustment for me. I wasn’t living there long enough to feel like a local, but I was able to live authentically in a city whose identity is being consumed and overrun by tourists.
Allora is my interpretation of my own life as an American student living in Venice for a semester. I turned the tips and insight I’d gained over my time there into an illustrated travel guide and Italian-English dictionary for those curious about life in Venice as a traveler staying longer than the average few days. English definitions of Italian words are paired with anecdotes and advice to make it through daily life as a non-Venetian, and the color palette is taken directly from photos of the city.
